Up Your Zoom Game

Tips and Tricks to take your video meetings from just ok to award-winning!

What does your video meeting setup say about you? Does it represent you accurately?

Does your space reflect the professional quality of service or the product you are selling?

Working at the office or from your home, do you check the frame before going live? Do you spend a few minutes tidying up your background?  Does your space reflect the professional quality of service or the product you are selling? Are you a guest at a virtual conference? Please don’t use a cheesy background. There are probably some of you out there reading this who use the backgrounds in zoom - and if you have to, you have to. But nothing says my place is cluttered or my office is from 1987, like I’m on the beach when you’re clearly in your office wearing a sweater. Use these tips below. You can even use these tips while traveling.

6 Tips to convey professionalism, trust, and intelligence over zoom.

  1. Check your setup before going live.

Check to see what is in your video frame. Can you rearrange a few things to eliminate distractions? Can you move your desk?

  2. Flip your setup so you are facing the window light.

Window light looks the most natural if you have it. Option B is an LED panel light. These are inexpensive and work great! Here’s one of our favorite light panels.

  3. Center your camera.

The camera should NOT be looking up your nose or down your face.  Sit an arm’s length away from your computer screen. There should not be an awkward amount of space between your head and the top of the screen.

Center your camera, too much room between your head and the top of your frame will leave people feeling uncomfortable.

4. A microphone is a game changer.

If you plan to start a podcast someday or regularly teach webinars, invest in one of these microphones. You’ll sound legit.

5. Add plants, for real.

A study found that plants in your video background make people believe you are more trustworthy and intelligent. Plants had the highest rating in 3 out of 4 categories. You can read more about the study here

6. Don’t use a “fake” background if you have to…fine.

Sorry if I offended you, but it screams, “I’m hiding my messy office.”

Take a few minutes and inventory what you have and evaluate your space to see what can be done.
