What is a Target Audience?

Think of your target audience like the group or crowd of people your buyer personas hang out with. They are the people that your persona relates to and makes up the larger group they would hang out with at a party.

Another way to think of this is as a community. This is a much more holistic and inclusive approach to thinking about the people that you are creating your brand content to connect with.

What is a Buyer Persona?

A buyer persona is a zoomed-in look at an individual “type” within your target audience. Think of this like picking a person out of the crowd,or community of people you have gathered, and really getting to know them on an individual level.

A buyer persona is a semi-fictional, generalized representation of your individual ideal customers. A detailed buyer persona will help with marketing, content creation, sales, product offerings, and services. Having a true human profile helps us relate to and understand our ideal client or customer.

How does knowing my buyer persona help my marketing?

  • You will know whom you are trying to attract and let go of those you don’t want

  • You will be able to identify what social channels they are using and focus your efforts there

  • You will build trust by knowing their desires and pain points and addressing them specifically

  • Knowing your personas will guide the type of visual content you create

  • You know whom you are talking to and how to use copy and language that appeals to them

How do I define my buyer persona?

  • Observe your current audience and individuals and write down things you notice about them

  • Ask good questions such as

    • What do they do

    • Where do they go

    • What interests do they have

    • What are their demographics

  • Look at other brands like yours and observe who they seem to attract and decide if this aligns with your brand as well

  • Then create a profile for each buyer persona and keep it on hand as a reminder
